Why Femicide Is Increasing in Kenya
Femicide in Kenya, the murder of women for being women, has become much more common in recent years. Because of socio-economic differences, usual cultural standards and a lack of strong laws, this problem has increased and brought to light important issues in the community. To deal with these issues, we must know all the causes that lead to violence against women. Poverty, laws that rarely work and strong gender biases all blend to help violence against women go unchecked. A quick response alongside awareness is required to address this problem. Because of these factors, Kenya needs many sectors to unite and work together for justice and future safety for its women.
1. Socio-economic Challenges: A large number of people are at risk because of ongoing poverty and unemployment. Financial problems and scarce schooling give way to settings where exploitation and abuse happen more often. Living with economic pressure may make it easier for men to become violent toward women. When there is no strong economic help, women find it even harder to get out of dangerous relationships.
2. There Are Poor Legal and Institutional Standards: When laws are not enforced, and the judicial system moves slowly, those who commit these crimes usually get away with them. Sometimes, because policies are incomplete and officials do not receive enough training, it is more difficult to act. Such a vulnerability encourages offenders, which allows the violence to keep going and become a common cause of femicide.
3. Traditions and Power of Men: Strongly held customs and gender roles are to blame for the routine acceptance of violence against women. Common attitudes that view women as less important may result in deciding they are less valued and thus simpler to attack. They stop society from moving forward and asking for accountability.
4. Inappropriate Help and Information for Families: Few services and a lack of awareness in the public keep survivors at risk. A shortage of healthcare, counselling and housing options prevents these women from getting treatment. In addition, society’s negative attitude makes it uncommon for abuse victims to seek help, which helps the offender keep using abusive methods.
