How does overthinking affect you
“When you’ve had a life of overthinking, you have the same reaction time and time again. Shyness becomes habitual. When you’re put in an unfamiliar situation, all you want to do is retreat and hide by default. You watch but don’t participate. You listen but don’t respond. You read but rarely comment. You take a photo, but you rarely post. You write, but you rarely publish. All of this is because your overthinking mind cannot stop thinking about how you will be perceived by the outside world.” – Joel Annesley

Overthinking is a disease that stops you from growing and living the best life you are entitled to. Sometimes it is good to overthink but it puts you in a state of vulnerability, but have you ever sat down and thought about what harm dissecting comes with?

Overthinking is also a sign of a mental disorder that is brought about by anxiety and depression. A recent study shows that 73% of adults between the ages of 25 and 35 overthink, this is caused by different life situations eg:

# Lack of jobs.

# Abusive or unhealthy relationships.

# Marriage/family problems.

# Education-based Education-based problems.

# Self-doubt

# Lowered self-esteem

Is it possible to stop overthinking?

It can be hard to stop something when you are already “addicted” to it. But when you look at the negative and positive sides of it, you will find the reason for abstaining or keeping to it. Yes, it is possible to stop overthinking, and here are some tips that will guide you through.

# Meditation - one of the most effective ways of stopping you from overthinking is meditation. It helps you connect with your inner self, listen to that soft voice that will persuade you to focus on building yourself.

# Avoid negative thought - This is the mother of overthinking, always making you hide and not participate, and at the end of the day, you feel like you do not belong or are not even good enough.

# Celebrate small achievements - Do not wait for you to achieve the end goal, but the small achievements that add up to make up the full package, are all you need to keep your bars raised.

“Sometimes you gotta stop worrying, wondering, and doubting. Have faith that things will work out. Maybe not how you planned. But how they were meant to be”.
